4/6/1930	Mahatma Gandhi picked up a lump of natural salt for breaking the 'Salt Law'. He was arrested at Dandi. This movement gathered strength and within a month about one lakh people were sent to jail. This violation of Salt Law was the second great step in India's Freedom Movement.

11/1/1956	Madhya Pradesh State High Court was established at Jabalpur having its benches in Gwalior and Indore.
10/23/1985	Rajiv Gandhi went to New York for the 40th anniversary of the UN.
1/15/1949	General K. N. Kariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief. He was the first Indian to reach to this post in Indian Army. In 1956, he was designated as Chief of the Army Staff - General, later Field Marshal. This event is commemoratively observed as Army Day.
5/7/1950	81 people died in a rail crash at Patna. A sabotage was suspected.
8/10/1991	Delhi airport police foils an attempt by a Saudi national to smuggle out a minor girl named Ameena.
