12/22/1998Saint Gora Kumbhar, an intense devotee of the deity Vitthal at Pandharpur, took Samadhi in Ter village in Osmanabad Zilla, near Latur.
10/10/1990Following political uncertainties in the wake of Veerendra Patil's decision to stay on in defiance of Congress Party's decision, President's rule was imposed in Karnataka.
4/13/1919Jallianwala Baug massacre. The great Indian tragedy occured in Amritsar which claimed 389 lives and wounded 1,516 activitists fighting for Indian independence. Early in 1919, the Rowlatt Act (Black Act) was passed. This authorized the Government to imprison any person without any trial and conviction in a court of law. This furious act was under the guidence of cruel Brigedier General R. E. H. Dyer and his 50 men troop. Michael O' Dwyer was then the Governor of Punjab who naturally defended the action. This day is observed as Jallianwala Baug Day.

6/19/1901Raj Chandra Bose, Indian mathematician and statistician, was born at Hosangabad in Madhya Pradesh. He made many valuable contributions to the subject. He discovered new codes for telecommunication. In 1976, America's highest honour to a scientist came to Bose as he was elected Fellow of the US Academy of Sciences.
5/28/1996BJP Govt. incapable of assembling a majority after two weeks. A left-wing coalition takes over headed by new prime minister H. D. Deve Gowda, Janata Dal leader and United Front coalition government. He held this office till 12 April 1997.
9/22/1999Former Test all-rounder Chandu Borde was re-appointed chairman of National Selection Committee on Day two of the BCCI AGM in Jaipur.
