2/22/1946Curfew imposed till 9 p.m. by the British in Bombay as rioting and looting continued for the second day.
6/30/1917Dr. Dadabhai Naoroji, great Indian, patriot and one of the founders of the Indian National Congress, politician and merchant, died at the age of 92.
10/16/1905Bengal was partitioned by Lord Curzon on the pretext of it being too big to administer. Instead of dividing it on the basis of non-Bengali areas, the division was on the basis of Hindus and Muslims. Britishers thought that would succeed in increasing Hindu - Muslim tensions. The tremor of partition was felt throughout India and was regarded as an insult and challenge to Indian Nationalism. A movement was launched by the moderates. New method of protests 'Swadeshi and Swaraj' became the slogan of the common man and the whole of India was drawn into the national movement.

12/26/190723rd session of the Indian National Congress was presided by Dr. Rash Behari Bose. In this session, Congress was split into two groups named 'Extremists' under the leadership of Lala Lajpat Rai and 'Moderates' under the leadership of Dr. Rashbehari Bose. Sir Pherozeshah Mehta took active part on the moderate side. Anand Bazar reported with headings as ""The 23rd National Congress. Presidential Election. Tilak's Amendment. Uproarious Proceedings. Free Fight. Police Aid. Pandal Cleared. Police Escort Tilak. Adjourned Sine Die"".
6/5/1984Operation 'Blue Star' was launched by Indira Gandhi. Indian commandos stormed into Sikh's holiest gurudwara Golden Temple in Amritsar to flush out the terrorists and other anti-government elements. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and over 325 people were killed in the temple. Thus a great rebel arose all over the nation and specially in Punjab.
5/11/1885Krishnamohan Bandopadhyay, leader, essay writer and journalist of Bengal, passed away.
