The Union Cabinet approves a proposal of the Civil Aviation Ministry to privatise the airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Calcutta and a new airport in Bangalore on a 30-year lease which can be extended by 19 years.

| 1/24/1966 | Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhabha, chairmain of Atomic Research Institute, passed away near Geneva when Air India Boeing 707 crashed in accident at Alps Hills, Mont Blanc in Switzerland killing all the 117 persons on board. |
| 12/9/1946 | The first meeting of Constitutional Committee Assembly was held in Parliment after a gap of two years, 11 months and 17 days. The Congress started its work of framing the Indian Constitution. Muslim League boycott failed to prevent Constituent Assembly opening.
